this time of year tends to be my favorite for curating and making playlists, since it brings me one step closer to sharing my year-end lists. for example:
like every other month since i started this newsletter journey, i have a new playlist for you. i’ve probably said this before, but i’ll say it again: i find it very fruitful to make these monthly playlists so that any point in the future, i can look back on what i was listening to and revisit the moments associated with that music all over again.
here is a recap of this month’s musical moments, plus some things i watched.1

from the archives
i’m not planning on buying anything this weekend (mainly because there isn’t anything i really need at the moment).2 in the vein of sustainability, i offer a look back at one of my favorite newsletters i wrote this year — in which i eulogized a long-lost tote bag.
sights to see
Succession
i know i’m a little late to this one, but damn, this family is messy! irredeemable characters aside, the vocabulary, pacing, hijinks, and quips all make this show quotable and memorable enough to warrant a rewatch in the future. also, the frequency that they use the phrase “f*ck off!” is dangerous, and i’ve lost count at this point! but sometimes people genuinely do need to f*ck off (disrespectfully!)
Dead Like Me
i actually watched Dead Like Me out of order because the first season was unavailable on streaming when i initially decided to hit play. but shoutout to the library; i recently moved and renewed my library card, which gave me access to Kanopy. the first season had just been added to the app, which felt very aligned. i already liked the show, but it ranks a bit higher for me now that i know what happened in the beginning.
Dreaming Whilst Black
this show was endearing, but there needs to be more episodes!
Earth Mama
this is one of those movies where the viewer desperately roots for the lead character to get their sh*t together (at least i did). considering all the ways that Tia Nomore’s character disappointed me, her acting did not.
the second installment of a filmless score went live this month, featuring the coming of age playlist that sets the scene before the introduction of character archetypes.
november novelty: the playlist
the notes: braids, barrettes, dedication, upheaval, reconciliation, potlucks, cranberries, exclamation, proclamation, reclamation, intricate details, immaculate design.
(november novelty on Apple Music)
i am skipping the “music to look forward to” section for this month, but i will include a more robust version of this list next month.
however, i am planning on having a closet sale if anyone is in the market for a secondhand small blue Telfar shopping bag and some size 7 Doc Martens.
totally feel you on Earth Mama, i had the same emotional investment. Also the music in some of the later montages in the film (and this trailer, now that i rewatched it) is sooo immersive, really enjoyed that.
