it’s been a little over a year since i did the first volume of weekend warrior. this time around, the featured musings are just as random. i honestly just wanted to do a little freewriting about some things on my mind as of late and i’ll share those thoughts with you all below. but first, a little throwback to the introductory volume from April 2021.
indie sleaze
a term used to define the overall debauchery in action and aesthetics of the late 2000s to early 2010s — you really just had to be there. this era kinda birthed the majority of my taste as it occurred during my most impressionable phase of adolescence. if you were called a hipster and/or shopped at Urban Outfitters anytime between 2006-2014, then you know exactly what indie sleaze is. it’s a certain feel, taste, location; you know it when you see it. it’s also randomness exemplified — things just were because they could be. for instance, not every aspect of an outfit needed to be functional and we honestly do did not care.
i recently stumbled upon an Instagram account cataloging many key moments and figures from this time frame and it’s just about everything i could have dreamed of. my own Tumblr archive smiles in admiration1.
a stunning new release
today, Finnish crooner Bobby Oroza shared his sophomore album Get On the Otherside — a release i had excitedly been anticipating since falling in love with a consistent slew of singles such as “I Got Love,” “Loving Body,” and “The Otherside.” if you love heartfelt soul music reminiscent of the 1960s, this album is the one for you.
resort ‘23
to be honest, i haven’t really been following the release of resortwear collections for the upcoming season. but after a friend sent me images from Christopher John Rogers’ Resort ‘23 collection, i promptly redownloaded the Vogue Runway app. the use of tastefully bold colorways + contrasting print mixing + exquisitely tailored details will always win me over.
mugler spring/summer ‘22
last, but certainly not least, is this star-studded video that speaks pretty well for itself2.
of course, i still have a couple copies of Missbehave in my personal archive (maybe with a few cutouts but they’re there).
i need gargantuan hoop earrings ASAP.
