enough days have passed without a new collection popping up on the Vogue Runway app for me to go ahead and share my FW23 fashion review. in this edition of the fashion month mixtape, i’m thinking of the themes and trends i noticed and what stories could be told through analyzing them together.
so instead of going designer by designer, here are the characters i’ve created through the overlapping aesthetics — plus the sounds they’d be listening to as they stylishly stomp through the streets.1
the big suit™️:
aka the HBIC. safe to say: the Talking Heads’ movie Stop Making Sense (1984) was probably on the moodboard.
the casually glam maven:
she’s known to wear sparkles & sequins in the daytime and on the least expected of silhouettes.
denim on denim diva:
the Canadian tuxedo, all grown up.
the whimsical wearer:
needing a color wheel to understand the theory behind an outfit is my kind of carrying on:
ms. monochrome & metal:
what’s black and white with the right bit of punk all over? see also: a classic b/w silhouette with elevated accessories.
sartorial sweetheart:
think bows, flowers, and other prom-adjacent motifs.
the alt-bride
she loves to keep the girls guessing. therefore, she’s probably already tied the knot with her significant other at City Hall by the time you even get invited to the reception.
the queen in green:
she’s not envious, but rather abundant with success of her own. she’s got a lot of shades. but whether she’s mean, that remains to be unseen.
you could also consider this as the same person on different days, depending on their mood.
