i’m currently catching up on a couple writing things offline, so that’s where much of my focus and energy will be this week. personally i’m bored with the artifice of social media and online existence (honestly just feeling a little over the Internet atm), but that’s a paradoxical conversation for another day!
while putting off some things i should have had done a long time ago, i’ve been indulging in the following entertainment media. hope you enjoy this quick first edition of read, watch, & listen.
to read
check out this fabulous interview i did with multihyphenate creator Karina Sharif on her paper sculptures, ethos, and inspiration. a profile of a talented Taurus during Taurus season, no less!
what’s on my personal reading list at the moment?
Glitch Feminism: A Manifesto by Legacy Russell
How to Read the Aura, Practice Psychometry, Telepathy, and Clairvoyance by W.E. Butler
Go Ahead in the Rain: Notes to A Tribe Called Quest by Hanif Abdurraqib.
to watch
this weekend, i finished Halston, which just premiered on Netflix. it’s a Ryan Murphy-directed saga that covers the trials and tribulations of an American fashion designer who revolutionized the industry in his own right. the mood is very somber, so i advise that you honor whether or not you have capacity before watching.
i’ve also been enjoying Exposure on Hulu, which is a photography competition show where the contestants shoot exclusively on a mobile phone. there are new episodes each week, so it’s been nice to have something to keep up with.
currently giving this bawdy Australian comedy called Why Are You Like This a try. the title truly speaks for itself as you will want to ask the characters this exact question. if you can get past the crude humor, there’s actually some timely commentary on sexuality, social justice performativity, and the double consciousness experienced throughout diasporas. but it’s definitely the type of show that will make you cringe in mixed company.
to listen
my longtime faves St. Vincent and Coco O. have shared new albums and i’m thoroughly entertained and enthralled per usual. for Coco O, this is her debut album since Quadron split in 2014, so it’s a pretty big deal for me.
i’m also telling anybody who will listen that they should definitely be listening to AG Club at this point because they are the future. Fuck Your Expectations Pts. 1 and 2 go all the way off. please enjoy this whole song about Yerba Mate (this also reminds me that it’s about time to bring back watch this space).
