and just like that, it’s basically November…how did we get here so fast? many will say that now is the time to make the most of what you didn’t experience in the months prior, but let’s not allow that to make us martyrs to oppressive systems.
if you feel like it’s time for you to go hard and hustle, then do so wholeheartedly. but i can attest that there are plenty of people who would opt into putting their energy towards jubilation and finding recovery through rest. even with starting a new job, i definitely fall into the latter category. work-life balance is of the utmost importance as i navigate my new schedule.
in transparency, i haven’t been gainfully employed in over a year, so i’m still adjusting to that more than anything. but i am very grateful to work from home, since it will allow me to reserve some energy for exploring my passions. i’ve typically experienced commuting as a huge time and energy suck — save for being a great arena to catch up on new albums and podcasts. in the words of Ms. Maxine Waters, i’m “reclaiming my time.”
i know that Halloween is this weekend, but i’m not feeling festive at all. i haven’t been able to muster up any energy to even form a costume from what’s already in my closet. plus, my main objective with any commercial holiday is to wait til the day after and stock up on the discounted candy. but i will be admiring and appreciating all of the effort everyone else puts into playing dress-up this year.
what lies ahead is the on-air october playlist, with a song for every day of the month. i’ve really enjoyed the latest from artists like Joy Crookes, Liv.e, James Blake, and Remi Wolf — so you’ll find music from them and plenty other talented folks within the playlist. enjoy and stay safe this weekend 💕
