today’s post is a precursor to my end-of-month review for friday — i hope to keep it fairly brief as i plan to spend the day tending to full moon things.
first, i wanted to suggest viewing the documentary Studio 54 on Netflix, since it’s the anniversary of the infamous club opening for the first time (April 26, 1977). starring one of Studio 54’s co-founders, Ian Schrager, this is a great film for understanding the context in which this short-lived nightclub experiment in excess has lived on through notoriety and its decadent glam aesthetic. this 2018 documentary is not to be confused with the late 90s film 54, but it is essential viewing for disco lovers.
i also recently came into an assortment of classic R&B cds that have me feeling super nostalgic and will be useful as i continue making mixes. plus, i’ve been on Depop scouring vintage tees and records, a couple of which i have acquired and will share here soon. i haven’t been able to stay off Thriftbooks as of late either — i’m just gonna blame it on Taurus season.
what else have i been up to? dedicating time to a daily stretching and breathwork routine, as well as enjoying this recipe for my blender bottle:
equal parts non-dairy chocolate almond milk and unsweetened cashew milk
a splash of cold brew coffee
a scoop of vegan protein powder (chocolate or vanilla)
ashwagandha powder
peanut butter (or almond/pecan — creamy not crunchy)
cinnamon to taste
i adapted this from a recipe i found on the blender bottle site — the cinnamon was a new addition this morning, but i think it’s there to stay.
i also recently revisited pictures from my FB page since the account has mostly lied dormant for years. as i was looked through old photos of myself from my high school era, i realized much of it was a testament to the trajectory i’m on: DIY everything, noble attempts at being über editorial (every moment was/is a photoshoot)…i even have a super grainy photo of me making magazine collages. i’ll be sharing some more of these moments over on my Instagram this week.
last but not least, i’ll leave you with my latest published piece for NBGA: an exploration of luxury upcycling and a conversation with designer Cierra Boyd of FRISKMEGOOD, known for her retrofuturistic sneaker corsets.
