as mentioned in the last newsletter, today’s my birthday! before i share the monthly playlist, here’s an assortment of 28 random thoughts, musings, & reflections on my 28th birthday.
on first listen, RENAISSANCE is a 7/10.
and of all the tracks, i really liked “Cuff It” as Beyoncé didn’t rely on vibrato as much. nice to hear some different tones from her.
i started watching this Hulu series by Ava DuVernay called Home Sweet Home, where families swap homes and lifestyles. it’s a wholesome slice of life watch, and it’s worth it to see the myriad ways other people live.
4 day work weeks are the wave, but let’s collectively aim for even less going forward.
at my big age, you can still win me over with a Minnie Mouse themed trinket.
donuts on my birthday is a tradition i maintain faithfully.
i ain’t listen to “Birthday Song” by 2 Chainz yet but it’s another tradition.
i also don’t believe in working on my birthday. if you have a summer birthday and never had to go to school on that day, then you likely understand.
sun and moon currently in Leo, you see the vibes.
i got a lot of series in my queue and they all are fairly melodramatic. but of all of them, why was Sons of Anarchy sooooo dramatic though?
watching the latest episode of Loot (starring fellow leo Maya Rudolph) and the main character’s love interest hands her a strawberry KitKat as a memento. coincidentally, my boyfriend just surprised me with a bag of matcha flavored KitKats that are absolutely divine.
a stocked fridge and pantry is a simple way to say “i love you.”
when hummingbirds fly, it’s like they are seamlessly weaving through the air.
i heard i’m getting arepas for dinner. really couldn’t ask for much more.
Everything’s Trash is a decent watch; it kinda seems like it would exist within the Issa Rae universe. can’t really elaborate beyond that at the moment.
yes, The Bear is worth all the hype. per usual, some of the best performances are coming from the Black and Brown actors whose overall storylines kinda sit in the periphery. but there’s nuance to this one and every actor rose to the occasion.
i’m grateful for community-facilitated meditative spaces.
i should probably finish my doula homework this weekend. class is out, but there’s a wealth of material on birth and pregnancy i still gotta tap into.
i’m really ready to get a sleeve of tattoos. but i’ll start slow, it’s been a while.
NOT TiGHT by DOMi and JD BECK is on my list of albums to listen to this weekend.
i also recommend Attia Taylor’s Space Ghost for fans of L’Rain and SPELLLING.
i wanna hear more beatboxing in music. not saying it’s a lost art form but it could experience a little renaissance if you will.
“you can do it, put your back into it” just got stuck in my head. slightly better than having “you won’t break my soul” on repeat.
i could really use a good stretch.
at 3:20 pm, it’s raining tremendously where i am and i actually love when it rains on my birthday. very renewing.
at least once a week when this show is airing on YouTube this gets stuck in my head: “she want every color, that’s a full size run.”
i learned a lot this last year. it was fruitful in a multitude of ways.
here’s the monthly playlist!
