i’m feeling the tide shift as more people get vaccinated and i’m ready to re-adjust, but i’m also proceeding cautiously — i’ll be wearing my masks for the foreseeable future (because tbh, Atlanta never actually closed). plus, i bought cute reusable fabric ones, so they deserve to be flaunted a bit. masks aside, i have to admit that i’ve been in a mood to change up my look in some way.
more specifically, i was feeling the urge to drastically change my hair for the last couple of weeks — to cut my locs shorter (big chop #3), to dye them, or to rehab their current state? leaning towards option 3 first, i realized they just needed more of a spa day than i had recently given them — if you have natural hair and don’t use an inflatable tub to soak your tresses, you might be missing out! i didn’t buy one until a few months back and it has made all the difference while deep cleaning my hair — and i might start using it every wash. i did an ACV/baking soda rinse with water as hot as i can stand it over the weekend (starting first with the tips and dunking my scalp once the water cooled) and my locs felt so refreshed.
this remedy can strip the hair since it’s so intense so i followed up my wash and condition with squalane oil (super lightweight) before blow-drying. with locs, you really have to be careful with the products you use as the texture is so dense. i’ve also found it’s helpful to cover my hair while outside to avoid environmental pollution or while wearing super fuzzy garments to avoid lint. this recent discomfort with my hair was probably part of the reason i wasn’t taking pictures for a brief moment, but that will change!
what else have i been up to? screenshotting affirmations, trusting my intuition, using my voice more, taking creative risks, doing healing work, further tapping into the depths of my own creativity, listening to the same songs on repeat…honestly, just living life. i also recently had this piece published on mocktails for the sober curious (or even the Cali sober crew), including recipes i’ve tested or adapted myself if you wanna check it out. what follows is a collection of tweets, lyrics, and text posts from my photo library. happy weekend!
