happy spring and welcome to aries season! for many (myself included), this time likely feels more like the beginning of a new year than January did. today’s musings will be brief, but i offer you my aries season playlist in addition to some invigorating music news.
first up: jazz-funk quartet Hiatus Kaiyote has blessed our ears with a new song, “Get Sun” featuring Arthur Verocai. the title is a mantra within itself and it is also the Australian band’s first single from their upcoming album Mood Valiant. due out on June 25, this will be their first full release on Brainfeeder Records.
second: Joyce Wrice’s debut album Overgrown was released on Friday and it’s pretty much everything i want in a modern R&B album. highly recommend that you listen on repeat!
and last but not least, here’s a mix to usher in the fiery, initiating energy of aries season and the arrival of spring. as i reflect on the cycles and ephemerality of life this week, i dedicate the song “Wild Flower” by The New Birth to the memory of my aunt Kimberly, who transitioned yesterday after a battle with cancer. she was an aries. we spoke last month and she was at peace then, so it gives me peace to know that she can finally rest.
i’ll be back Friday with another record collection highlight, in which i’ll be exploring a classic album by an artist whose birthday falls on the 26th. comment if you think you know who it is!
xoxo
